Let’s Get Hopping 46: Anything But A Card

Hello, and welcome back to my blog. Today I am hopping with the crew from Let’s Get Hopping and the focus for this month is ‘anything but a card’. If you’ve been following along with the hop, you would have come around from Alicia Yap. I hope you enjoyed what Alicia had to share.

On one of my many visits to a local dollar store recently, I found these cool wooden hanging pieces and was excited to get crafting with them. They have a raw bark edge which adds a fun textured frame. I have been working a lot with the products in the Peaceful Place Suite and thought they would make a perfect scene for the wooden hanging.

The Peaceful Place Specialty Designer Series Paper features designs with silver foil on one side. I chose the piece with a white back ground and large silver foil trees. I then cut out the cabin with the silhouette die as well as the detailed die in the Snowy White Velvet Sheets, and backed it with a silhouette cut in Soft Suede cardstock. To create more depth to the snowy banks I die cut the fox silhouette in the Velvet Sheets and then stamped the fox in Cajun Craze.

USEFUL TIP: Use your Stamparatus and the negative of the die cut piece to line up the fox stamp perfectly. Once the stamp is in place on one of the Stamparatus plates, place the die cut Velvet Sheet into place with the negative and stamp.

To introduce some colour and break up all of the white in the scene I die cut the trees silhouette and detail die in Evening Evergreen cardstock. I then lightly sponged VersaMark randomly over the die cut piece and set with White Emboss Powder to emulate snow on the branches. I then used the three stand along tree dies to cut a mixture of Garden Green and Old Olive cardstock. For these trees I sponged the edges using Sponge Daubers to add texture and dimension.

To bring the design together I die cut the timber fence pieces in Crumb Cake and sponged them. I placed lengths of Old Olive/Pretty Peacock Reversible Ribbon, Evening Evergreen Chevron Weave Ribbon, and White Glittered Organdy Ribbon on top of each other and tied a large bow to adhere to the bottom corner. Finally, I scattered a few of the Subtle Shimmer Sequins around the sky, trees, and snow banks.

I do hope you have enjoyed the home décor piece I have made today. Please leave a comment below so that I know you have stopped by.

Carry on with the hop and head over to see what Shelly Wadge has instore for you today. I’m excited to hop around myself and be inspired by all of the not a card projects.

July 8×8 Sampler Class.

Hello! Welcome back to my blog. Today I have our most recent Sampler class design to share with you.

August 8×8 Sampler Class.

August 8×8 Sampler Class.

This months sampler theme was ‘Masculine’. My class tied in with Father’s Day, however this design is suitable for any male figure – brother, uncle, friend, etc.

We got extra creative and made the mini notebook from printer paper I had previously died with tea. Each page was stamped using images from the Beautiful World stamp set in coordinating ink colours. We then attached the pages to the cover by stitching them with some twine. The cover was embossed using the Subtles 3D embossing folder, and then aged using a sponge dauber and Soft Suede ink. It is then held closed with a length of Early Espresso Faux Suede Trim and a slide from the Antiqued Corner and Slides pack. To finish off the mini notebook, we adhered die cut elements and covered the spine and two front corners with Early Espresso cardstock.

The sentiment is heat embossed in white onto a piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock. We stamped the quill onto a lighter sheet of patterned paper from the World of Good Designer Series Paper pack, and finished off the panel with a corner from the Antiqued Corner and Slides pack.

The globe was die cut using Brass Foil, Misty Moonlight cardstock, and Soft Suede cardstock for the stand. Again, the panel was finished off with a corner from the Antiqued Corner and Slides pack.

The best aspect of this sampler page was that the mini notebook could come off of the page! It was adhered with magnets which meant it could come off to have a photos glued in, or to have some memories jotted in – whatever the owner wanted to do with it really.

Poppy Moments Fun Fold.

Poppy Moments Fun Fold.

Welcome to my blog! Today I have a fun fold card to share with you using the Poppy Moments dies. I hope you enjoy seeing this project. Don’t forget to check out my YouTube tutorial at the bottom of this post.

A group I am a part of has been doing card challenges during our time in Alert Level 4, 3, and now 2. We were challenged to make a sympathy card using a neutral colour as well as our team colours – Night of Navy, Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight.

To complete this project you will need:

  • Card base, Crumb Cake – 14.9cm x 13cm
  • Front panel, Crumb Cake – 10cm x 10cm
  • Cardstock layers, Soft Suede – 2.25cm x 14.6cm AND 9.75cm x 9.75cm
  • Card insert, Bermuda Bay – 10.25cm x 14.6cm
  • Card insert, Whisper White – 10cm x 14.4cm

Score the Crumb Cake at 10.5cm on the long side and fold with a Bone Folder.

Emboss the two pieces of Soft Suede using the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder. Emboss once and then turn the pieces 90 degrees to get a crosshatch pattern. Adhere these to the Crumb Cake pieces of cardstock.

Line up the Crumb Cake front panel with the bottom edge of the card, and center left to right. Adhere to the inside to the top flap using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape.

Die cut one large and two small solid and detailed flowers from the Poppy Moments dies in Whisper White.

Sponge the large solid flower with Night of Navy, and the two small solid flowers with Bermuda Bay using sponge daubers.

Repeat this with the three detailed flowers with Daffodil Delight. Colour the detailed flowers with Wink of Stella. Adhere the detailed flowers to the solid flowers using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Adhere the large flower to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the two small flowers using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape.

Stamp the sentiment ‘Words Are Never Enough’ from the Rooted in Nature stamp set on a strip of Bermuda Bay with VersaMark ink. Coat with white embossing powder and set using a heat tool. Trim the sentiment close to each word using Paper Snips. Adhere the sentiment pieces to the card front using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Tie a 50cm length of Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon around the top of the card front.

Adhere the Bermuda Bay piece to the inside of the card.

Sponge the edges of the Whisper White piece with Bermuda Bay using Sponge Daubers. Adhere this to the inside of the card.

Free As a Bird Shaker Card.

Free As a Bird Shaker Card.

Hello and welcome to this tutorial. I had a lot of fun creating this shaker card using the Free As a Bird stamp set, and I hope you enjoy having a go yourself.

The link to the corresponding YouTube video is below – check out my channel and subscribe to be notified of new content.

To make this project you will need:

  • Crumb Cake card base – 10.5cm x 29.8cm
  • Whisper White cardstock – 9.5cm x 13.9cm
  • So Saffron Subtles 6×6 Designer Series Paper – 9cm x 13.4cm
  • Window Sheet – 8cm x 11cm
  • Whisper White cardstock for inside card – 10cm x 14.4xm
  • Whisper White cardstock for birds – **cm x **cm
  • Whisper White Twine **cm

Stamp the Birch background stamp in Crumb Cake ink onto the front of the Crumb Cake card base.

Adhere the piece of So Saffron Subtles 6×6 Designer Series Paper (DSP) to the 9.5cm x 13.4cm Whisper White cardstock using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape. Be sure to have sufficient adhesive running across the center of the DSP to ensure the layer doesn’t separate after die cutting the oval.

Use the largest straight edge oval in the Layering Oval Dies set to cut out the center of the DSP.

Adhere the Window Sheet to the back of the DSP piece using Snail Adhesive or Tear & Tape.

Tie the Whisper White Solid Baker’s Twine around the bottom of the DSP piece and tie a bow. Position the bow on the right hand side.

Adhere Foam Adhesive Strips around the die cut oval, keeping a 0.5cm (ish) space between the edge of the paper and the foam strips.

NOTE: This is so that the foam strips can’t be seen when the card is on an angle, and so that whatever you use to fill the shaker card isn’t sitting totally out of view when the card is standing.

Adhere more foam strips down the left and right hand side of the DSP piece.

Pour out a small pile of Iridescent Sequins onto the front of the card. Remove the backing from the foam strips, and adhere the DSP piece to the card front.

NOTE: Be sure to check the shaker card fillings (sequins) are positioned in the center of the card front before removing the backing from the foam strips.

Stamp the birds sitting on a branch on a piece of Whisper White cardstock using Tuxedo Black Momento. Colour the image in using Watercolour Pencils, and smooth out the pencil lines with a Blender Pen. This gives the image a faux watercolour look, without watercolour paper or water! I love this technique for finer details like this stamped image.

Fussy cut the birds using Paper Snips and adhere to the card front framing the die cut oval using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape.

Repeat the colouring process and fussy cutting for the large single flower and adhere to the 10cm x 14.4cm piece of Whisper White carstock, in the bottom right corner.

Adhere this Whisper White piece to the inside of the card using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape.

Stamp the ‘Thank You’ sentiment in Tuxedo Black Momento on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. Cut this tight to the words using Paper Snips. Place Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the sentiment, at the top. Adhere the sentiment so that the bottom of it sits on top of the twine.

I also made this shaker card in Smoky Slate for the base, and Balmy Blue for the DSP layer. The sequins I used are Woven Threads Sequins.

Do you need to order any of the products used to make this shaker card? I would so appreciate your order. Each order helps me prepare and share project tutorials just like this one.
