This month’s class was a spooky one! This is the second Halloween page I have designed for my sampler classes, and I’m happy to say it was well received.
There are not many New Zealanders who celebrate this holiday, and those who do generally don’t go all out on decorations for their houses or yards as other countires do. In this way, a framed sampler page fills the gap for my class attendees. It can be made the centre of attention on a coffee table or hallway table with some extra decorations and fake cobwebs thrown in there too, or can be hung in a prominent place in the home.
What I love about the Halloween Magic Dies, more than the bats and the fact that is has a pretty flower and leaf die!, are the two nesting rectangle shapes perfect for creating focal points in any design.
We created the pumpkin by die cutting three ovals and overlapping them. To add a bit of texture we sponged the edges using sponge daubers. The sentiment was then heat embossed in white onto a strip of Blackberry Bliss cardstock.
The spiders were stamped in Tuxedo Black Momento and then die cut. We lightly sponged the die cut spiders to soften the white background. They were too stark again the darker colours of the rest of the sampler page. To create height in their bodies we adhered some Iridescent Pearls. The pearls have a really cool oil slick appearance.
We curled one corner of the page for some fun texture, and highlighted the amazing Magic on This Night Designer Series Paper by using it as the background of the main square, as well as the smaller panels top and bottom.
I just loved the colours in this patterned paper pack – Basic Black, Blackberry Bliss, Cajun Craze, Pretty Peacock, and Whisper White. They were a lot of fun to work with.
