Let’s Get Hopping 42: Returning Favourites.

Hello, welcome back to my blog! I’m very excited to join the Let’s Get Hopping team again this month and I’m excited to share this project with you. You’ve come to me from Nina’s blog here.

This month’s blog hop theme is Returning Favourites. Stampin’ Up! have released the new 2021-2022 Annual Catalogue and it is full of great new stamp sets and coordinating products. What is very cool is that a number of stamp sets and other products have carried over for another year of crafting potential.

I really enjoyed working with the Timeless Tropical stamp set and coordinating In The Tropics dies in the past year, and I’m looking forward to getting more use out of them.

For this design I looked to the Stampin’ Up Colour Coach for colour inspiration. The combination is So Saffron, Gray Granite, and Poppy Parade. I was hesitant at first – this is not a colour combo I would have chosen for myself! That being said, it is good to challenge ourselves when being creative. I am very happy with the outcome!

I stamped the card base tone-on-tone in So Saffron using the pineapple stamp, and spritzed the cardstock layer with the So Saffron Stampin’ Write Marker. I love spritzing for adding some detail. Next, I die cut the pineapple base in Gray Granite and sponged it using a Sponge Dauber. The top of the pineapple was die cut in Sahara Sand foil from the Love You Always Foil Sheets.

To finish off the card I heat embossed the sentiment in White Emboss Powder, tied a bow using White Bakers Twine and adhered both of these on top of the pineapple. A few Adhesive Backed Sequins in Mango Melody scattered around brought everything together.

Thank you for visiting my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think about this card, please comment below :). Be sure to hop along to see what the rest of the team have been creating. You’ll be visiting Eimear Carvill from Stamp in Colour.

Happy crafting x

Timeless Tropical Birthday.

Timeless Tropical Birthday.

Today I have a quick card to share with you using the Timeless Tropical stamp set and coordinating dies. I found inspiration for this card from Wendy Lee at CreativeLee Yours.

To make this project you will need:

  • Very Vanilla Thick card base – 14.9cm x 21cm
  • Terracotta Tile 6×6 DSP – 8.5cm x 12.9cm
  • Soft Suede card stock – 8cm x 12.4cm
  • Crumb Cake cardstock – 7.5cm x 4.5cm
  • Braided Linen Trim – 10cm

Sponge the edges of the Terracotta Tile DSP piece using sponge Terracotta Tile ink and a Sponge Dauber.

Emboss the Soft Suede piece of cardstock using the Subtles 3D Embossing Folder. TIP: Emboss the piece in portrait orientation, and then a second time in landscape orientation for a cross-hatch design.

Adhere the Soft Suede piece to the Terracotta Tile DSP piece using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Seal.

Adhere this to the Very Vanilla Thick card base using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Seal.

Die cut two of the pineapple tops in Pear Pizzazz. Use a Light Old Olive Stampin’ Blend to add colour to the embossed lines. Curl the edges with a Bone Folder, and fold back the die cut triangles.

Adhere these two die cut pieces to the card front using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Seal. TIP: Ensure they are positioned in the bottom 2/3’s of the card front.

Die cut the piece of Crumb Cake using the third up from smallest rectangle die from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. Stamp the sentiment in Early Espresso onto the center of the Crumb Cake die cut piece.

Frey the length of Braided Linen Trim by pulling the edges apart. Adhere this to the bottom left-hand corner of the sentiment piece using Tear & Tape or Seal+.

Adhere the sentiment piece on top of the pineapple tops using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Die cut the three small flowers in Terracotta Tile. Use a sponge dauber to sponge the flowers with Terracotta Tile ink. Adhere the small flowers to the sentiment piece using Glue Dots.

Finally, adhere Champagne Rhinestone Basic Pearls to the centers of the small flowers.

Retiform Technique Birthday Card.

Retiform Technique Birthday Card.

Welcome to my blog! Today I have a fun technique to share with you using the Timeless Tropical stamp set. I have seen the retiform technique before and have finally been able to give it a try. I hope you enjoy this project.

Be sure to click on the video below to see my YouTube video tutorial.

To complete this project you will need:

  • Terracotta card base – 10.5cm x 29.8cm
  • Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper – 10cm x 14.4cm
  • Whisper White cardstock – 9.5cm x 13.9cm
  • Whisper White cardstock insert – 10cm x 14.4cm

Starting at the top of the piece of 9.5cm x 13.9cm Whisper White cardstock, use a long strip of scrap cardstock to section off a portion. Using a sponge dauber, sponge Soft Suede ink along the edge of the scrap cardstock. Try not to go too far into the Whipser White section. You can go back later and add more sponging if you need to.

Move the scrap cardstock down the Whisper White piece to section off another portion at a different angle. Repeat the sponging, making sure to not cross over different sections.

Repeat these steps until the Whisper White piece has been totally sectioned off.

Start at the top again and section off the sponged area with Post-It notes. Stamp the pineapple image in Terracotta Tile ink. Remove the Post-It notes and use them to section off the next portion. Stamp the small flower in Terracotta Tile ink.

Repeat this sectioning off with Post-It notes and stamping until all portions are full. Adhere the Whisper White piece to the Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape. Now adhere this to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

NOTE: Any ink the gets on the Post-It notes may take some time to dry and get on your fingers. Be mindful of this causing smudges on the Whisper White piece.

Stamp the sentiment ‘May Your Birthday Be Memorable’ in Soft Suede on a scrap piece of Whisper White. Punch this out using the Everyday Label Punch and sponge the edges of this with Terracotta Tile.

Take an 8cm length of Burlap Ribbon and unwind the strands for half of the length. Adhere this to the back of the sentiment piece using Tear & Tape. Tie a bow using Whipser White Bakers Twine and adhere this to the front of the sentiment with a Glue Dot. Adhere one of the Tropical Oasis Trinkets to the sentiment piece with a Glue Dot.

Adhere the sentiment to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals, and finish off the card by adhering the second Whisper White cardstock piece to the inside of the card.

Happy crafting.

Timeless Tropical Birthday.

Welcome to my blog! Today I have a great tip for using up the last bits of your Designer Series Paper (DSP) stash. Because I know that I am not alone in either not wanting to cut into a beautiful sheet of DSP or keeping every last piece of DSP I cut!

The beauty if using up strips of Designer Series Paper in this way is that it doesn’t matter what width each strip is, they can all be used to make a panel for a card front.

Each card showcases the Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper and Tropical Oasis Trinkets. Both of these items are included in Stampin’ Up!’s Last Chance Products which are available until 2 June 2020, or while stocks last. You can view the range here. Be sure to get in quick so that you don’t miss out!

For this design I started with a strip going from left to right on an angle. I followed this down to the bottom. This left the top portion open, so I adhered the DSP strips at a right angle across the top of the panel.

In this card design I used strips of DSP of 1cm, 1.5cm, 2cm and 2.5cm and adhered them all in the same direction. I love the angle across the card.

A simple sentiment piece with sponging, an embellishment and length of ribbon finish off the card nicely.

For this card design I used the scrappy strip technique demonstrated by Bruno Bertucci here for the top part of the panel. It is a fun technique and a great way to showcase our beautiful Designer Series Paper.

Happy crafting.

Timeless Tropical Thank You.

Timeless Tropical Thank You.

Hello! Welcome to my tutorial post for this fun fold Timeless Tropical card. I hope you enjoy having a go at making this card. Don’t forget to check out the tutorial video on my YouTube channel Made by Megan and subscribe to be notified of new videos from me.

I used the dimensions for this card from Alicia Yap’s tutorial over at her Paper Munchkin blog.

What you need to make this project:

  • Standard card base, Pear Pizzazz – 10.5cm x 29.8cm
  • Designer Series Paper, Tropical Oasis – 4 x 6 inches
  • Thin Strips, Tropical Oasis – 1/4 x 4 inches
  • Cardstock, Whisper White – 4 x 4 inches
  • Whisper White scrap

Start by scoring the card base at 3/8″, 2″, 3 7/8″, 5 /12″ and 5 7/8″. Use your bone folder to define the the fold on these score lines.

Take a strong adhesive such as Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape to adhere the thinnest section next to the center fold of the card to the inside of the card. This ensures the fun fold front of the card sits well when open.

Adhere the thin strips to the card front, in the smallest sections. Next we need to chop the Designer Series Paper (DSP) piece up to fit into the remaining panels on the card front. Using your Paper Trimmer, place the 4 x 6 inch piece of DSP on the trimmer in the landscape position. Make all cuts on the left hand side of the DSP. Cut at 1 1/2″, 1 3/4″, 1 1/2″ and you should be left with a 1 1/4″ piece.

Lay out the Designer Series Paper (DSP) pieces so that the printed images are all in order. Adhere the first three panels from the left hand side to the front of your card. The remaining piece of DSP will be the 1 1/4″ piece; this will be adhered to the inside of your card, on the right hand side.

On the Whisper White 4 x 4 inch piece, stamp the two tree image from the Timeless Tropical stamp set. Use Stampin’ Write Markers in Pear Pizzazz and Soft Suede to colour in the stamp. I went over the center of the tree top and along the leaf fronds a little with the Pear Pizzazz marker to add dimension to the stamped image.

Using some Whisper White card stock scrap, punch out the Everyday Label punch. Stamp the ‘Thank You’ sentiment in Black Momento ink. Use the Pear Pizzazz marker again to colour the leaf stamp. Again, I went over the veins of the leaf a second time with the marker to add dimension to the stamped image.

Pop up the punched shape using Stampin’ Dimensionals being mindful to keep the left hand side of it open so that the flap on the card front will sit underneath freely. Adhere this to the Designer Series Paper on the inside of this card.

I originally made this card design with Best Dressed Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Floral Essence stamp set. I love how one card design can be mixed up to suit different occasions and people. This floral card is very feminine and soft, while the Timeless Tropical card above is a good masculine card. Mix it up again with a different colour scheme and it would make a wonderful card for a child.
