Forever Fern To a Friend.

Forever Fern To a Friend.

Hello! Today I have this recessed panel card to share with you. I used products from the Forever Greenery suite to put this card together and had a lot of fun doing it.

Shopping by suite is an easy way to ensure you have craft supplies that coordinate and look fab together. Stampin’ Up! have given each suite its own product number to make ordering super easy. Or, if you only want bits and pieces, you can still use the individual product numbers to order only what you want. Check out the current suites here.

To make this project you will need:

  • Whisper White Thick cardstock – 29.8cm x 10.5cm
  • Whisper White cardstock – 14.9cm x 10.5cm
  • Pretty Peacock cardstock
  • Pear Pizzazz cardstock
  • Champagne Foil Sheet

Score the Whisper White card base at 14.9cm along the long edge. Fold on this score line, using your bone folder.

Use your paper trimmer to cut the Whisper White layer on an angle. TIP: Make the first cut away from the top left corner, allowing plenty of space for a layer of coloured cardstock to be adhered. Repeat this for the second angled cut.

Use the two Whisper White pieces to trace a line on the Whisper White Thick cardstock base. This will show you where to stamp the leaf images.

Emboss the two Whisper White pieces using the Greenery Embossing Folders. Adhere a strip of Pretty Peacock cardstock to the inside edge of the two Whisper White panels using Seal or Tear & Tape. Trim these to the edge of the Whisper White panels using Paper Snips. Place aside for now.

Stamp three of the leaf images from the Forever Fern stamp set. TIP: I chose two of the big leaves, and one of the small leaves. Randomly stamp the leaves to fill in the space between the pencil lines. Colours to use are Pear Pizzazz, Garden Green, and Pretty Peacock – use one colour per leaf stamp. TIP: Don’t forget to add some stamping to the inside of the card.

Stamp one extra of each leaf image onto a scrap piece of Whisper White. Die cut these using the Forever Flourishing Dies.

Die cut four of the small sprigs in Champagne Foil, and two of the non-leaf filler thing (my scientific term :P) in Pretty Peacock. ‘

Adhere the embossed Whisper White pieces to the card front using Seal or Tear & Tape.

Adhere the die cut leaves and fillers using Glue Dots. TIP: Adhere one of the die cut leaves using Stampin’ Dimensionals to break up the layers.

Punch a scrap piece of Pear Pizzazz cardstock using the Everyday Label Punch. Stamp the sentiment ‘To A Friend…’ in Pretty Peacock onto the punched piece, to the right hand side. Feed the punched piece back into the punch to trim it closer to the sentiment. TIP: Watch my YouTube tutorial for how to do this if you are uncertain.

Adhere the sentiment on top of the die cut pieces using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Tie a bow using Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon and adhere it below the sentiment using Glue Dots.

Floral Essence Masking Technique.

Floral Essence Masking Technique.

Recently, I had a focus on the handmade items I make and normally have for sale at markets and a local pop up shop over on my Facebook page. I showcased these items and posted games. One of which asked participants to name a technique or Stampin’ Up! product that they would like to see in a tutorial video from me. The winner was Rosie Dunn, with the suggestion of masking technique.

To make this project you will need:

  • Calypso Coral cardstock – 10.5cm x 29.8cm
  • Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper – 9.5cm x 13.9cm
  • Very Vanilla card front – 9cm x 13.4cm
  • Gold Glimmer Paper – 5cm x 7.5cm
  • Very Vanilla sentiment piece – 4.5cm x 7cm
  • Very Vanilla card insert – 10cm x 14.4cm

Stamp the lined flower image from the Floral Essence stamp set in Calypso Coral in opposite corners of the Calypso Coral card base. This adds dimension to the base layer of the card.

Adhere the piece of Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper (DSP) to the card front at an angle using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape.

Die cut the Very Vanilla cardstock and Gold Glimmer Paper piece for the sentiment piece. The Gold Glimmer is cut using the fourth up from smallest scalloped oval, and the Very Vanilla is cut using the fourth up from smallest straight edge oval in the Layering Ovals Dies.

Stamp the sentiment in Tuxedo Black Momento ink, centered in the oval. Stamp the lined flower image in Calypso Coral in the very top of the oval, and again stamped off in the bottom half of the oval.

TIP: It is good to ink up the stamp between these stamps to the paper. This is because the first stamp over the very top of the oval has part of the stamped image off of the cardstock. If you were to immediately stamp it in the bottom half of the oval it would have weird lines where the stamp overhung from the paper.

Adhere the Very Vanilla sentiment piece to the Gold Glimmer piece using Multipurpose Glue or Tear & Tape.

To create the wreath of flowers on the Very Vanilla card front piece, first place the sentiment piece in the center and trace lightly around the edge with a pencil. Be mindful that the Very Vanilla card front piece will be at an angle when it is adhered to the card base.

Use this pencil line to determine where to stamp the flowers. Start by stamping the large solid flower in Calypso Coral at the top and the bottom of the oval. Next, use a mask cut out from a large post-it to cover one of these flowers and stamp another next to it and overlapping a little. Make this second set of stamped flowers stamped off. Repeat this on the other side of each full strength flower.

You should be left with enough space to stamp two more flowers – one either side of the wreath full strength stamping.

TIP: Stamp the image you want to mask onto the post-it. Ensure the majority of the stamped image is over the section of post-it with adhesive on the back. Cut out the stamped image right on the edge of the image to prevent any border being made from the mask.

Use the flower mask to stamp the leaf image in each corner. Stamp the leaves in Old Olive, and then again stamped off. This helps to lift the card.

Stamp the stamen for the solid flower in So Saffron.

Take the Whisper White Crinkle Seam Binding Ribbon and colour the full length with the Dark Old Olive Stampin’ Blend. These alcohol markers making adding colour to ribbons and twine super easy, and the final result is a smooth coverage.

Wrap this around the Very Vanilla card front piece and tie a bow. Adhere this panel to the card front using Multipurpose Liquid Glue or Tear & Tape.

Use an eraser to remove the pencil marks from the Very Vanilla cardstock. Adhere the sentiment piece using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

On the Very Vanilla card insert, stamp the solid flower in Calypso Coral and the stamen in So Saffron. Use the post-it mask to stamp the leaves in Old Olive, one full strength and one half strength. You could repeat this stamping on the envelope too.

Thoughtful Blooms Sale-a-Bration.

Thoughtful Blooms Sale-a-Bration.

Hello! And welcome to my second tutorial blog post and YouTube video. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and take a look. Please remember to subscribe to my YouTube channel and blog to receive updates straight to your inbox.

I saw a card design by Linda Yamamoto from YamStamps and loved it. To me it was a design that lent itself to different levels of crafting ability, so it was an easy choice for my second YouTube tutorial video. Below are the full instructions for the three card designs. I’d love to know what you think of the stamp set and coordinating punch from the Sale-a-Bration freebies.

To make this project you will need:

First is the beginner crafter design. All you need to make this card are card stock and inks. Super simple, and oh so pretty! Whichever level you are at in your crafting, there is a lot to be said for simple designs. They show us that you don’t need to have all the bells and whistles to make a gorgeous card.

The vine image and dots are stamped directly on to Whisper White Thick card base in Smoky Slate. The large flower is stamped off in Flirty Flamingo, and the sentiment, small flower and Flirty Flamingo flower center are stamped in Melon Mambo. The same image is stamped on the inside of the card. The center of our cards are often overlooked; a simple image in the corner or supporting sentiment are nice ways to decorate the inside.

To make this project you will need:

Next up is the casual crafter design. You’ll need a few more supplies for this version, but the stamping is as the previous version.

The stamping is repeated on the Whisper White layer and the inside of the card. This is then adhered to the Smoky Slate layer using liquid glue or tape, and the Smokey Slate layer is adhered to the card front. The flowers are stamped off in Flirty Flamingo onto scrap Whisper White card stock, and then punched out using the Small Bloom Punch. These are adhered to the card front using liquid glue. Dimension was added to the flowers by using a Bone Folder to curl the petals.

To make this project you will need:

Lastly is the avid crafter design. This stepped up version builds on the materials and steps used for the beginner and the casual crafter versions.

The Whisper White layer is stamped and the flowers are punched out as previously instructed. For this design the flowers are popped up onto the card front using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals, and decorated with a silver Metallic Pearl in the centre of each one. This layer is adhered directly to the Smokey Slate layer which is embossed using the Scripty embossing folder.

A length of Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding ribbon is wrapped around and tied into a knot. With the knot to the right hand side of the card,

Silver Metallic Thread.

The sentiment ‘CongratYOUlations is stamped in Melon Mambo onto a 1.5cm strip of Whisper White. This is popped up on top of the Metallic Thread with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Inside the card is decorated with the same size Smoky Slate embossed piece, and stamped Whisper White piece as the card front.

Part 1 of 2.

March 8 x 8 Sampler.

March 8 x 8 Sampler.

We weren’t able to hold my March sampler class due to New Zealand moving into Alert Level 4 with COVID-19. I missed sharing this design with the ladies who had booked in for the class, but everyone’s health and well-being is far more important.

In lieu of a class, I hope you enjoy seeing the Easter themed project I had prepared.

The Fable Friends stamp set was too cute to pass by for an Easter themed sampler page. The rabbit and ducklings were coloured using a blending technique I learnt from a fellow Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, Bev Poultney.

Use Watercolour Pencils to colour in the rabbit and duckling. I tried to do some shading by going darker around the edges and lighter in the middle of each area. Then bring in your Blender Pen and create a water coloured look by smoothing out the pencil lines. This is a fun technique if, like me, you struggle with water colouring.

I used the Thoughtful Blooms stamp set and co-ordinating punch from the Sale-a-Bration freebies to create the flower and leaves on the panel with the rabbit. Colours used for the flowers are Flirty Flamingo, Calypso Coral and So Saffron, and the leaves are Pear Pizzazz.

To finish off the flowers, I coloured Clear Faceted Gems using Daffodil Delight Light Stampin’ Blends.

The Easter panel in Crumb Cake is embossed with the Basket Weave 3D Embossing Folder. I die cut the letters from a sheet of Calypso Coral Subtles 6×6 Designer Series Paper.

The ‘Happy’ is from the stamp set Wildly Happy and is stamped on So Saffron card stock.

For the panel with the chicks in Easter eggs I created a fun faux suede texture with the Pear Pizzazz grass. When you run a bone folder over a piece of card stock over and over the card stock will start to separate. Once the card stock comes a part, carefully pull the card stock in two.

I coloured Whisper White Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon with Dark So Saffron Stampin’ Blend. I love having white twine or ribbons for my crafting, because with the Stampin’ Blends they are customize-able for any project.
